Structured Settlements – Favorable for Purchaser or Seller
Normally the settled amount is paid to the claimant in a single lump sum. Sometimes, this lump sum amount is awarded in the form of installment plan. This kind of installment plan is called structured settlement. This arrangement is normally formed by insurance companies that purchase annuities that assure regular payments to the claimant. It is known to all people that there are many advantages of installment plan but there are some circumstances when the plaintiff regrets not taking lump sum. This one is the more financially sound option for the claimant.
An emergency medical expense or an investment opportunity can be the situations when a plaintiff needs money faster than he is receiving it on monthly or annual basis. There may be other kinds of contingencies when he/she need a lump sum amount of money. The claimant has no other way to choose except selling the structured settlements. The claimant cannot change his/her decision because he/she has signed a contract to receive annual payments. Therefore, the only way to get a lump sum amount is to sell out the settlement to some other companies. The purchaser of settlement buys the future payments by giving a specific amount of money to the seller. A specific percentage fee is deducted by the buyer of settlement.
In this scenario, such structured settlement is favorable for seller but much favorable for the buyer. This is due to the reason that seller sells the settlement on the discount and buyer buys the settlement after deducting a specific percentage. If the buyer buys the settlement in less than the retail value then it will be beneficial for him/her.
| On the other hand, no buyer will like to buy any kind of settlement in more than the retail value because it will not be profitable for the buyer. Usually, the sellers search the market to find the most commendable purchaser to sell their settlement. I must advise you not to sell your settlement to the first buyer because it may give you low rate. If you search the market and meet the several buyers, you will be able to sell your structured settlements at a good rate. |
